Also known as Stablon, Coaxil (Tianeptine) is an antidepressant that is chemically related to amineptine. It is an antidepressant agent with a novel neurochemical profile. The drug is a serotonin reuptake accelerator and works opposite to the action of SSRI's.

Chemically related to amineptine, Coaxil (Tianeptine) is an antidepressant. It works opposite to the action of SSRI's. This serotonin reuptake accelerator is an antidepressant agent with a novel neurochemical profile. The medicine increases serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) uptake in the brain (in contrast with most antidepressant agents). It also reduces stress-induced atrophy of neuronal dendrites. Similar to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and in contrast with most tricyclic antidepressant agents, tianeptine does not appear to be connected with adverse cognitive, psychomotor, sleep, cardiovascular or bodyweight effects and has a low tendency for abuse.

Coaxil - Tianeptine (TIA) has a comparatively favorable pharmacokinetic profile. This antidepressant drug has been shown to reduce extracellular serotonin level and reveals no affinity for neurotransmitter receptors. The medication appears to be as effective as amitriptyline, fluoxetine, clomipramine, sertraline and mianserin and more efficient than maprotiline in improving associated anxiety in patients with depressive disorders. Anxiety and depression symptoms in alcohol dependant patients also react well to tianeptine.

How to Take Coaxil
Take this medicine as directed. It can be taken with or without food. Without consulting with your doctor do not stop taking this medicine suddenly.

Side Effects of Coaxil:
Similar to any active pharmaceutical product, this medicine may reason a bit unlikable side effects in certain patients. Warnings and precautions for Coaxil

• Any patient about to experience general anaesthetic should report to the anaesthetist and stop treatment 24 to 48 hours prior to the medical intervention.

As with other antidepressants, trim down the dosage regularly over a period of 7 to 14 days when treatment is to be stopped. Notify your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding your baby.

What to do if you take Missed Dose of Coaxil?

Take your next dose once you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How to Store Coaxil:
Store this drug in the container it came in, firmly closed, and out of the reach of children. Keep it at room temperature and away from surplus heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Dispose of any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist about the proper disposal of the medicine.

Manufactured by a French company named Servier, Coaxil is the product brand name for the drug that is generally known as Tianeptinum. As it helps in improving the anxiety associated with the ailment, it is an effective drug if the patient shows symptoms of depressive disorders. Patients, who are dependent on alcohol, can also take advantage of this drug in case they suffer from the symptoms of anxiety and depression.
